Andrea Kleinbard
Advisor

Andrea Kleinbard is an Advisor to A-Street and an education leader with deep experience improving literacy outcomes in school systems nationwide. She believes profoundly in the capability of all students to learn to read and is driven by a commitment to close the gap between reading research and literacy policy, products, and professional learning.

Andrea partners with school systems, policymakers, philanthropies, and mission-driven organizations to support the implementation of evidence-aligned literacy practices. Previously, she was a member of the founding team at Lit, a national nonprofit dedicated to bringing the science of reading to life in schools across the country.

Earlier in her career, Andrea spent a decade at Uncommon Schools, where she served as a classroom teacher, instructional leader, K–2 school leader, curriculum director, and principal coach. During this time, her economically disadvantaged students consistently performed at or above grade level in reading and math.

Andrea began her career as a kindergarten teacher with Teach For America. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College, where she also served as a Teaching Assistant in the Linguistics and Cognitive Science department, and a master’s degree from Hunter College. She lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband and two daughters.
