    Topic: Microsoft
MicrosoftThere has been large increase of Mozilla Firefox use instead of Microsoft Internet Explorer in Europe. In countries where MS Windows cracking is a money making pastime, Firefox use has grown the to 45% so far. Microsoft Vista is watching you!
Posted by oswald on Monday, July 02 2007 @ 09:47 PDT (743 reads)
    Topic: Microsoft
MicrosoftMicrosoft has extended the customer surveillance features of Microsoft Vista greatly both technically and via EULA since Windows XP. By running Vista you give Microsoft the permission, rights and obligation to watch what you do, report about what you do and if they do not like what they see disable your ability to use THEIR computer. Big Bill is watching you!

Feel the MS Vista handcuffs crushing your wrists
Posted by oswald on Monday, April 16 2007 @ 21:17 PDT (1466 reads)
    Topic: Microsoft
MicrosoftWindows XP is almost completely absent from large computer stores now. You have to go to small local shops to get Windows XP. Otherwise: YOU MUST BUY Windows Vista even when your existing software will not work on it. Meanwhile the trap that is DRM ("Digital Restrictions Management") is tightening on those who have installed Vista and Sony is distributing DVDs that won't playback in their players because of DRM!

Best Buy Geek Squad Insiders Tell Why Their Service Is So Poor
Posted by oswald on Tuesday, April 03 2007 @ 10:44 PDT (1517 reads)
    Topic: A-Street
A-StreetThe Consumerist has a story on how BestBuy took a great regional computer service company and made it mediocre. The "agents" receive little or no training and it's really a sales job, not a repair service. Agents are required to add as much extra junk as possible to your work order. Think used car sales: you NEED floor mats and undercoating. Yeah, these guys can fix your computer...

Another Total Takeover Microsoft Windows (Vista included) Exploit
Posted by oswald on Friday, March 30 2007 @ 14:35 PDT (1554 reads)
    Topic: Microsoft
MicrosoftVisiting a website with Microsoft Windows Vista (or earlier versions of Windows) with Internet Explorer allows hijackers to take over your system completely. This is a Zero Day Exploit and is actively being used on the Internet NOW and has existed in Windows for years.... Microsoft acknowledges they have known about it since December 2006, but have not released a fix. CORRECTION: Microsoft knew about this in 2004! Way before Vista was released.

Y2K7: The Daylight Savings Time comes earlier and ends later in 2007
Posted by oswald on Tuesday, March 06 2007 @ 14:09 PST (2871 reads)
    Topic: A-Street
A-Street The Energy Policy Act of 2005 has lengthened daylight saving time by four weeks in the US. Instead of beginning the first Sunday of April and running through the last Sunday in October, daylight saving time will now stretch from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November. Electronic devices that track time will need to be updated to handle the new start and end dates.

Posted by oswald on Tuesday, March 06 2007 @ 14:07 PST (2071 reads)
    Topic: Microsoft
MicrosoftMicrosoft is not providing support or updates for the changes in Daylight Savings Time (DST) this year on Sunday March 11th at 2am. Microsoft Claims Vista Sales Are Poor Due To Piracy?
Posted by oswald on Tuesday, February 27 2007 @ 10:25 PST (2129 reads)
    Topic: Microsoft
MicrosoftSo they plan to crank up the Digital Restrictions Management in Vista to make it even more painful to use rather than get the hint that customers do not want a computer that they cannot control.

Microsoft Vista RUNS SLOWER and is LESS RELIABLE than Windows XP because of DRM
Posted by oswald on Tuesday, February 13 2007 @ 04:40 PST (1936 reads)
    Topic: Microsoft
MicrosoftProminent software security researcher/developer Bruce Schneier tells us what all the DRM (Digital Restrictions Management) in Microsoft Vista is really about. It does absolutely nothing for customers except make Vista slower, harder to support and less pleasant to use than any previous version of Microsoft Windows. And for all this added pain it will not protect content. (Both HD-DVD and Blueray DVDs have been cracked. And there is already software to decrypt and copy HD-DVDs.) Of course, we told you all this earlier.

Forbes Magazine: Warns Readers to Stay Away From Microsoft Vista
Posted by oswald on Saturday, February 10 2007 @ 15:17 PST (1948 reads)
    Topic: Microsoft
MicrosoftForbes magazine has warned readers to avoid Microsoft Vista.
"Vista is a fading theme park with a few new rides, lots of patched-up old ones and bored kids in desperate need of adult supervision running things. If I can find plenty of problems in a matter of hours, why can't Microsoft ? Most likely answer: It did--and it doesn't care."

Wall Street Journal calls Microsoft Vista Unexciting more of the same
Posted by oswald on Thursday, January 18 2007 @ 08:36 PST (1513 reads)
    Topic: Microsoft
MicrosoftThe Wall Street Journal has reviewed Microsoft Vista and found it "unexciting." They also expect the security issues that haunt Windows XP to continue in Vista. Which is obvious given that you still need Antivirus software with Vista, something not needed in MacOS or Linux.

UPDATED: What you lose if you upgrade to or buy Microsoft Vista
Posted by oswald on Saturday, December 16 2006 @ 17:41 PST (2845 reads)
    Topic: Microsoft
MicrosoftMicrosoft Vista provides little new utility, but lots and lots of new restrictions on how users can use their computers.
“Vista is an upsell masquerading as an upgrade. It is an overall regression when you look at the most important aspect of owning and using a computer: your control over what it does. [...]the new 'features' in Vista are a Trojan Horse to smuggle in even more restrictions."
If you want to purchase your own leg irons and pay to keep them firmly locked about your legs (you won't be running or even walking quickly anywhere) Vista is the path.

MicrosoftSo the activation scheme of Microsoft's new "most secure operating system for media companies (to hell with customers) ever" has been cracked. So will the only people that will be hobbled by Microsoft's control schemes will be the legitimate consumers who buy it? Hmmmm.
